Discover Ecotourism in Mauritius
Mauritius has become a popular tourist destination. Tourism industry in Mauritius has evolved exponentially for the last ten years. Positive or negative, its economic, social and ecological impact are major.
3 concrete measures to make things happen in Mauritius to promote ecotourism
Measure 1 - Tourism and accessibility -
Promoting access to holidays for all
Despite the efforts already made at national and local level, there are still some services not offering access (physical) accessibility for all. To accelerate the implementation of such benefits, incentives should be offered.
Measure 2 - Tourism and Environment -
Support the development of alternative transport
Transport accounts for the majority of Greenhouse Gases emitted by the tourism industry.
To reduce these impacts, we propose the following measures:
- Promote the use of modes of transport less polluting, multi-modality.
- Promote the development of tourism offers travel-related: cycling, hiking, ...
Measure 3 - Tourism and economy -
Maintain and develop the local tourism employment
Tourism is an important creator of local jobs, both directly and indirectly through the use of products and services offered by all of the major concerns:
farmers, artisans, traders ...
To catalyze the creation of sustainable local jobs, we propose to:
- Support the creation of tourism businesses that use local resources and the principles of sustainable development
- Create a national award for innovative projects of local heritage value.
